I sent my Scope back to Meade for some minor repairs .When it was returned they sent me a extra mounting ring ..So with a little drilling and 2 heavy duty shelf brackets,i mounted it on the wall ,approx 40 inches off ground (cats cannot get up there)..So if you can order a extra ring it is a good idea.
I am in CA so it is protected from earthquakes to.
Hope it is a good tip for preserving the scope .
